MyMoney Terms of Service

Note: This is an initial draft of MyMoney's Terms of Service intended to support our launch and third-party integration applications. A formal lawyer-reviewed version will replace this document before public availability.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using MyMoney ("the Service"), you ("User") agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

These Terms apply to all users, including those who connect financial accounts, view dashboards, or access AI features.

2. Description of Service

MyMoney is a personal financial management application that:

  • Aggregates read-only data from your connected bank, credit card, brokerage, and crypto accounts via Plaid, SnapTrade, and Coinbase
  • Provides budgeting, goal tracking, tax estimation, and net-worth tracking tools
  • Offers AI-powered insights via Anthropic's Claude API (subject to per-user opt-in and usage caps)
  • Stores tax documents you upload to a private vault
  • Optionally allows household sharing with consenting members

MyMoney does not:

  • Place trades, transfers, or any other transactions on your behalf
  • Provide regulated financial, investment, legal, or tax advice
  • File tax returns
  • Act as a registered investment advisor (RIA), broker-dealer, or fiduciary

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and a resident of a jurisdiction where the Service is legally available. By using MyMoney you represent that you meet these requirements.

4. Account Security

  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and any TOTP authenticator used for multi-factor authentication.
  • You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • You must notify us promptly at the contact address below if you suspect unauthorized access.

5. Third-Party Services

MyMoney connects to your financial accounts through third-party providers including Plaid, SnapTrade, and Coinbase. By connecting an account, you also agree to the terms and privacy policies of those providers. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or behavior of third-party services.

AI features are powered by Anthropic. AI-generated content may be incorrect; you should not rely on it as the sole basis for financial decisions.

SMS messages are delivered via Twilio Inc. and email is delivered via Resend Inc. By opting into SMS or relying on email delivery, you also agree to the terms of those providers. Standard message and data rates from your mobile carrier may apply for SMS. Full details of the SMS and email programs — opt-in, opt-out, frequency, sample messages, and HELP/STOP keywords — are in our Messaging Policy.

6. Read-Only Access; No Trading

All third-party connections used by MyMoney are read-only. We do not request, store, or use credentials capable of placing trades, transfers, or withdrawals. Coinbase API keys are validated as read-only at connect time and refused if they have trade or transfer permissions.

7. User Content

You retain ownership of any content you upload (manual transactions, tax documents, notes, etc.). By uploading content you grant MyMoney a limited license to store, process, and display it solely to provide the Service to you.

You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to upload any content and that uploads do not contain malware or infringe third-party rights.

8. Prohibited Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to facilitate illegal activity
  • Attempt to circumvent authentication, rate limits, encryption, or RLS policies
  • Reverse-engineer the Service except to the extent permitted by law
  • Use the Service to scrape or aggregate data on behalf of third parties
  • Resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute the Service

9. AI Disclaimer

AI features provide informational summaries and suggestions. They are not financial, legal, or tax advice. AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. You are solely responsible for decisions you make based on AI output.

You may disable AI features at any time in Settings. Operator-level disablement is enforced via the AI_ENABLED environment flag.

10. No Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT FINANCIAL DATA WILL BE COMPLETE OR ACCURATE.

11. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, MYMONEY AND ITS OPERATORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, OR USE, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

12. Termination

You may close your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that pose a security or legal risk. On termination, your data will be handled according to our Data Retention & Deletion Policy.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notice. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state of the operator's primary place of business, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.
